Routine
Lucy is a creature of routine. This is no surprise as Marnie and I are the same way. For the past 5 days Lucy has added something new to her morning routine, a full on toddler melt down. They last anywhere from an hour to a couple of minutes. I will be sitting down with the parenting book this afternoon during nap time to see if it has any helpful advice.

When Ruthie has meltdowns it is usually because she is tired or hungry or both. When they happen most often I will threaten to send her to her room, at which point she either calms down or she gets more upset. She usually calms down pretty quickly when she is sent to her room then comes out and can talk to me.
I always try to stay calm when this happens because if I get upset I make things worse.ns
Thanks Wayne. That helps a lot. I will try it.
OK...here's advise from your friend with no children....walk away. If she's not tired or hungry she's probably trying to get your attention and a meltdown isn't the way to do it. Once she calms down then you can deal. Yes, I know...I have no children...but the method seems to work with my husband.
I have found that I melt down in the mornings, too - so much to do and so little time in my world. At one point when Tristan was doing this, the pediatrician told me to keep juice right by his bed and give it to him first thing in the morning to help get his blood sugar going. Maybe I should keep juice near my bed...
